Windermere Community Service Day: Celebrating 42 Years of Giving Back

Since 1984, Windermere offices have closed their doors for one special day each year to focus on something bigger than real estate: giving back to the communities we call home. What began as a simple idea 42 years ago has grown into one of Windermere’s most cherished traditions. Every June, agents, staff, and owners step away from their desks, put on their work gloves, and dedicate their time to local organizations that make a difference in the lives of families, children, seniors, animals, and neighbors in need.

This year, Windermere’s 42nd annual Community Service Day brought together offices across the Western United States for projects that ranged from packing food boxes and cleaning parks to supporting foster youth, caring for community gardens, and helping organizations that provide shelter, stability, and hope.

Here’s a look at how some of our offices showed up this year.

California

Windermere Signature Properties sent their teams out across the Sacramento region to support a variety of local organizations.

The Cameron Park/Placerville office spent the day volunteering at the El Dorado County Food Bank, supporting the organization’s mission to prevent hunger and provide nutrition throughout the community. Meanwhile, the Fair Oaks office partnered with Habitat for Humanity ReStore, assisting with projects that help create affordable housing options for local families.

The Davis / Woodland office volunteered with T.R.O.T.R. (Therapeutic Riding and Off-Track Rehabilitation), a volunteer-driven nonprofit that enriches the lives of individuals with disabilities through horse-centered programs. Volunteers supported ranch projects, assisted with facility upkeep, and helped care for the horses that make the organization’s work possible.

At Saint John’s Program for Real Change, the Sierra Oaks office supported an organization that has spent more than four decades helping women and children build pathways toward stability and self-sufficiency through housing, workforce training, behavioral health services, and family support.

Oregon

Across Oregon, Windermere Realty Trust offices tackled projects that addressed everything from food insecurity to foster care support and environmental stewardship.

In Redmond, volunteers partnered with Every Child Oregon to fill a bus with diapers, wipes, and other essential supplies for children in foster care. The organization plays a vital role in supporting foster families and ensuring children have access to the resources they need to thrive.

The Raleigh Hills office spent the day with Sunshine Division assembling food boxes for families experiencing food insecurity. Since 1923, Sunshine Division has provided emergency food and clothing assistance throughout the Portland area, helping thousands of households each year.

In Portland Heights, agents gathered at Chelsea’s Closet Warehouse to assemble costumes, create accessories, and prepare costume closets for partner hospitals. The organization was founded to bring joy, imagination, and moments of normalcy to children facing serious or terminal illnesses, offering opportunities to play during some of life’s most challenging moments.

Meanwhile, the Cannon Beach office headed to Fort Stevens State Park for a beach cleanup, helping preserve one of Oregon’s most treasured coastal destinations for future generations.

Montana

In Montana, Windermere agents demonstrated the power of small-town service and community connection, with agents in Helena volunteering at Helena Food Share and assembling grocery boxes for the community members who are unable to travel to the food bank themselves. Their efforts helped ensure that nutritious food reaches neighbors who need it most.

Further north, the Windermere Whitefish team partnered with Land to Hand Montana at the Wildcat Garden. Land to Hand works to connect children and families to healthy food through farm-based education, school gardens, community agricultural programs, and nutrition initiatives. By helping cultivate spaces where food is grown and education takes place, volunteers supported an organization that is creating long-term impacts on food security, health, and community wellness throughout the region.

Utah

Windermere Utah agents and staff spent their Community Service Day supporting Switchpoint in Davis County, an organization dedicated to helping individuals and families experiencing homelessness and housing instability.

Participants for the day focused on the organization’s Teen Living Center, which provides housing and support services to high school students facing homelessness. Throughout the day, volunteers painted, organized donations, took inventory, and helped prepare spaces that directly support young people working toward brighter futures.

Idaho

For another year, Windermere Coeur d’Alene Realty returned to Canopy Village, continuing a partnership that has become a meaningful Community Service Day tradition.

Canopy Village serves as a trauma-responsive haven for children and families experiencing abuse, neglect, or crisis. Volunteers spent the day cleaning, landscaping, and improving the grounds and facilities to help create an environment that feels welcoming, safe, and full of hope for the families who depend on the organization.

Washington

Throughout Washington, Windermere offices rolled up their sleeves to support organizations tackling everything from hunger and homelessness to animal welfare and environmental stewardship.

In the Tri-Cities, more than 50 agents from Windermere Group One partnered with the Benton Franklin Humane Society for a day of hands-on service. Volunteers built a storage shed, cleaned and organized facilities, and hosted a community-wide supply drive that encouraged clients and neighbors to contribute much-needed items. The Humane Society provides shelter, medical care, adoption services, and educational programs that support both animals and pet owners throughout the region.

Back in Seattle, the Windermere Services Company and Windermere Northgate teams joined forces at Food Lifeline, one of the Pacific Northwest’s leading hunger-relief organizations. Volunteers packed food boxes, sorted donations, and helped prepare nutritious food for distribution across Washington. Food Lifeline partners with hundreds of food banks, shelters, and meal programs statewide, working toward a future where no one has to face hunger.

The Ballard office spent the day volunteering at Ballard Food Bank, helping expand access to food and essential resources for families throughout the Seattle area. Together, volunteers packed 452 home-delivery dry bags and 300 no-cook meal bags, repackaged 510 tortillas for the organization’s Weekend Food for Kids program, bundled supplies, and donated nearly 90 pounds of non-perishable food. Their efforts helped support an organization that provides far more than food, offering resources and services designed to help community members thrive.

Further south, Windermere Abode teamed up with local nonprofit Oscar’s Enemies to help keep Tacoma beautiful. Volunteers spent the day removing litter and debris from local neighborhoods, collecting more than 500 pounds of trash. While the cleanup made an immediate impact on the community, it also served as a reminder of one of Community Service Day’s greatest benefits: bringing people together to strengthen both the places we live and the relationships we share.

What makes Community Service Day special isn’t just the projects completed or the hours volunteered. It’s the collective commitment to showing up for one another. And as communities continue to evolve and face new challenges, Community Service Day serves as a reminder that meaningful change often starts with something simple—a willingness to lend a hand.
