As a self-described “straight shooter,” REALTOR® Curtis Gibson prides himself on being authentic: he truly enjoys spending time with his clients, and takes great satisfaction in educating them on the market, the process of buying and selling, and making sure that they make the best decision possible.

While growing up, Curtis worked for his family’s local flower business, and it was here that he learned his strong work ethic and great customer service skills. His father had always encouraged him to get his real estate license, and it was in 2005 that he officially began his career as a REALTOR®. As a teacher in Tacoma for 15 years, his wife Megan finally joined him in the summer of 2019 and enjoys assisting and helping his clients achieve their homeownership dreams.

Curtis has lived in Tacoma for over 24 years, and for the past 18 years, he has lived in University Place with his wife and their two sons. Curtis attended and graduated from the local Wilson High School (now Silas High School), and attended both Western Washington University in Bellingham, WA and University of Washington Tacoma where he received his BA (all while working full time and starting a family!). These days, Curtis loves spending time with his family, is an avid golfer, and enjoys watching sports (Go Huskies! Go Hawks!)

What can clients expect when working with you?

For the past 10 years, I’ve been teaching a Washington state certified home buyers' class. Since I started teaching these classes, I really try to bring an advisor-type mentality to buyers and sellers. Clients should know that both Megan and I give them the same advice that we would use, as we always try to put ourselves in their shoes. If we wouldn’t do it ourselves, we will tell you why and explain in great detail the reasons.

Tell us more about the kind of real estate you specialize in! What neighborhoods do you work in?

Since I teach home buyer classes, I work with a lot of first-time home buyers. They take me all over South King, Pierce, & Kitsap counties. Also, because I grew up in North Tacoma and we currently live in University Place, we know these markets extremely well and have become neighborhood experts here!

I interviewed 6 people and they and one other realtor are the only ones who gave me accurate information. They did not try to pressure me into paying for staging, or making expensive repairs. They were complete willing to have my back in a predatory business and help. Being inaccurate by over a 100 thousands dollars may be chump change in the world of real estate, however for most homeowners their house is their biggest asset, they know the Tacoma market and are incredibly competent. When commission is over $50k it hits the seller hard. However, when the seller ( at least for us) learns where or how that commission gets divided up between several people or areas it takes away the notion that someone is making a killing. Curtis and Megan earned their portion of the commission on our sale. When people like us only go through a home sale 2-3 times in our lives it’s a stressful thing to see the $ being eaten away at the bottom line. It would be helpful to have some of that explained going into the sale. We didn’t know about the county excise taxes. Ouch! Overall Curtis and Megan did us good, as good as could be expected.
