4,000 Coats for Kids

Posted in Collections and drives and Events by Christine Wood

Greetings from the Windermere Foundation,

"The brokers, agents and staff of Windermere Van Vleet took a rickety little operation and turned it into a coat-delivering machine that is far more friendly to the children than ever before."

I recently received the message above in a  letter from a local TV station in Oregon thanking Windermere offices in the Rogue Valley (Van Vleet, Investors Marketplace and Trails End) for their commitment to low-income children.

The Windermere offices had a goal:  provide the comfort of a warm coat to every child who may otherwise go without this chilly winter season. And for the past five

Coats for Kids

years they have participated in KDRV’s Coats for Kids campaign -a program that gets coats to kids who do not have one. Last year over 3000 children received a warm coat.

How do they do it? During the month of October, community members generously donate coats in area drop-off barrels while Windermere agents collect the coats and take them to be cleaned. Once cleaned, volunteers, including those from Windermere, begin the process of sorting, bundling and delivering to local schools and Head Start programs.  In addition to the gently used coats, Windermere Foundation dollars are used to purchase new coats to ensure that every child receives a warm coat.

This year over 4,000 coats will be delivered to children in need!

Greetings from the Windermere Foundation,

For the past five years the Windermere offices in the Rogue Valley (Van Vleet, Investors Marketplace and Trails End) have participated in KDRV’s Coats for Kids campaign -a program that gets coats to kids who do not have one.

During the month of October, agents collect coats from approximately 30 drop off barrels throughout the area and then take them to the cleaners. Once cleaned, volunteers begin the process of sorting, bundling and delivering to local schools and Head Start programs.  In addition to the gently used coats, Windermere Foundation dollars are used to purchase new coats to ensure that every child receives a warm coat. This year over 2000 coats will be delivered to children in need!

  • Congratulations! Good work! It is a tremendous commitment to your community and you should all be proud. We are just beginning our Coats & Blankets Drive to benefit Transition Projects www.tprojects.org here in Portland. No one should be cold during the winter months. It's another example of how Windermere agents set themselves apart by being involved in their communities.
